Burning Permits

Fires Set in Open Air

Burning permits are required for all outdoor fires from April 1st to October 31st.

Permits are available at Town Hall.

$20.00 Fire Permit / $5.00 for weekend Fire Permit

$10.00 Brush Piles / Grass Burning (valid for 2 weeks from date of issue)

Permit is NOT valid between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time on any day without prior written authorization of the Fire Department.

  • Outdoor fire pits/fireplaces must be completely enclosed with mesh and have no openings larger than 12mm (1/2 inch).
  • Outdoor fire pits/fireplaces must be at least 3 metres (10 feet) from any structure, combustibles such as fence or trees ad from property line.
  • Outdoor fireplaces shall be placed on a non-combustible surface.
  • Brush piles to be burned are to be less than 2 metres in diameter and less than 2 metres in height.
  • Grass burning is not to exceed 1 hectare and the flaming edge is not to exceed 30 metres at any one time.

From November 1st to March 31st, all open air burning must be approved.

For approval, please contact the Fire Chief or the Fire Prevention Officer.
